Internet Marketing: Good Guy Marketing

Monday, June 8th, 2009

In times past when an expert had something to say they made themselves available to magazines, newspapers, radio and television to spread some of their knowledge to the masses. In the 21st Century this dynamic has changed.

Today experts are often found posting in the form of personal or business blogs, social networks or message boards.

These same individuals will likely produce articles of their own and make them freely available on the web.

It would seem that mentoring has found a new way to express itself. Experts seem eager to pass along information. If you’ve ever wondered what benefit there is to these experts this article will seek to explain how helping others can have a profound effect on personal success.

“Good Guy” Marketing

The primary benefit for experts is that whenever they post on a blog or forum they can place a link to their business website in the signature line of the post. This signature remains in place for site visitors, but it is also picked up as a backlink by search engines.

By helping others develop their knowledge on an issue you can also provide another series of backlinks to your website.

I suppose this may sound like a selfish motivation, but if you look historically at business it has always been driven by seeking to help consumers understand how to use your product and help them understand why your product is superior to others. This is the premise of “Good Guy” marketing.

This idea isn’t all that different from the interviews for print publication of yesteryear except that the end result can be global instead of regional or national in scope. In times past an article would include a byline on the individual being interviewed and it would typically result in interest by others in the work or product they were involved in.

Today, that process is altered in that the expert can develop information when they want and make it available to free article directories without the need for a willing publication. In many ways this scenario is much more beneficial to both informed consumers as well as the ‘Good Guy” marketer.

Business as Usual

The good thing about this Internet marketing strategy is that it can be done without a significant amount of fanfare. You can simply respond to posts, create your own posts or develop articles because it serves a valued purpose. The tag line information can be set to come up automatically. In essence marketing is taking place in an arena where you are simply sharing your knowledge with those who are most interested. This could well be one of the best forms of marketing available.

Artisteer – Author Stunning WordPress Themes Quickly

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Artisteer is an awesome new software tool that has WordPress (and other) users jumping for joy. If you have any WordPress sites, you’ve obviously ran into the issue of trying to find a decent theme to get your site looking just right. If that’s you, Artisteer can make your life much easier.

Sure, you can go buy a premium theme, at a premium price. You can also wade through the endless number of free templates and hope that you don’t download one that has malicious code embedded, but why would you want to ?

Now there’s no reason to do either. With the availability of Artisteer not long ago, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, CodePress and ASP.NET developing just got much easier and faster. With such an intuitive, easy to learn interface, and such powerful capabilities, almost everyone can author beautiful themes/templates in only minutes. Before, you’d better know XHTML and CSS very well before even attempting what Artisteer makes so effortless.

WordPress has become the platform of choice for many Affiliate Marketers, and that’s for many reasons. Obviously, the first thing that is very attractive, is that it’s free with any cpanel hosting account. Even so, a bad product is bad regardless of the price. WordPress is also popular because it is just a well designed, efficient, easy to use product. It was good right out of the gate, and it gets better with every new release. The developers deserve all the praise that they receive. Also, WordPress lends itself well to almost any task. With the many plugins available you can make it do nearly everything you could possibly want from a marketing website.

So, you’ve got a fantastic, free, versatile program in WordPress. It installs with just a few clicks using Fantastico Deluxe. What could make it any better ? Artisteer is the missing link that you maybe didn’t even know was needed. I use to weigh the options of paying for a custom theme, purchasing a premium theme, or jumping from site to site looking for that free theme that was just right. Those days are long gone, I got Artisteer and what used to take at least many hours, I can now do in just minutes.

With a cool option to suggest ideas for your new theme, creativity isn’t even necessary to create awesome themes and templates with Artisteer. If creativity was needed, well, let’s just say I would be out of luck with this program. I have no creativity, but yet even I can produce great looking WordPress themes using Artisteer.

You’ve heard the saying, ‘a picture is worth a thousand words.’ It’s true, and the image a visitor gets from any website that you develop, better be a good one immediately. If you have a horrible, ugly or confusing site, people aren’t going to stick around and give you a second chance to make that first impression. I’ve seen sites, even just a single sales page produce a staggering amount of money consistently, not because they necessarily offered the best information or product, but because they were so visually appealing and did offer something that immediately caught the visitor’s attention.

In closing, if you have WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, CodeCharge, ASP.NET or even other HTML sites, I would take a serious look at the Artisteer software. It’s not about not having the skills to author your own themes and templates, it’s about efficiency, productivity, and being able to get your sites looking good in the quickest time possible.

Even if I could hand code all of my themes and templates, I still wouldn’t. Why ? Because there’s absolutely no reason to, at least for me. If you need some special script on the site you can always add that in, but why hire someone to develop a custom theme just for a few lines of needed code ?

I haven’t included the many features of this great tool to generate WordPress themes here intentionally, you can download the fully functional demo for free. The free demo is 100% operational in it’s design capabilities. When you download and install it you’ll know exactly what this piece of software is capable of. The completed themes and templates are watermarked however, so you’ll need to pay for the software if you decide to keep it, and you will decide to keep it, rest assured.

Artisteer is available in two versions, the Standard Edition does everything, WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, CodeCharge, ASP.NET and of course it will let you export your theme or templates as fully validated (W3C) XHTML and CSS.

The Home and Academic version is all you’ll desire if you do primarily WordPress, and HTML sites. I doubt I will ever use Joomla, Drupal, CodeCharge or ASP.NET, but obviously if I do change my mind I can always upgrade my current version of Artisteer.

Go have a look at Artisteer, I can just about guarantee that you’ll be as impressed as I was. I downloaded the demo and then bought the software literally within minutes. It is that amazing.

Get Going With Email Marketing And Keep More Customers

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

It’s Never too Early:
We often talk with companies who aspire to reach many of the same goals we’ve achieved with email - regular communications, and enhanced relationships. Amazingly, many of these companies are considerably larger than us - but yet object on the grounds that they ‘aren’t ready.’ Baloney! Email marketing is incredibly easy to get started - and in our opinion it is most effective when it is done with a philosophy of simplicity

Frequent Contact is Key:
Email marketing does not work as well for a one-time quick hit marketing strategy. Email allows you to build a regular, ongoing dialogue with your best clients and prospects. And that becomes self-selecting - those who most wish to do business with you will appreciate the regular communications. Those who do not can opt-out. It truly is a win-win.

Be Regular:
One of the real keys to success is how frequently (or not) you communicate. We occasionally provide special alerts, but generally, for us, once a month is plenty often to communicate. I firmly believe - and our results have confirmed - that regular but respectful communication is optimal.

Content is King:
Ultimately, for professional service firms like ours it is ideas that build relationships - and ideas are driven and supported by content. We strongly recommend the creation of a regular communications vehicle - whether an e-Newsletter or other vehicle. It has worked for us and it works for a number of our clients.

Be Brief:
We also have found that it is critical to keep the content out of the newsletter. While this may seem to be a contradiction to the previous point, it is not. You should let people know about your ideas, but not force them down their throats. Use the newsletter to point to your content (on your site or elsewhere) but don’t try to cram it all in. It shouldn’t take someone 10 minutes to decide if your newsletter is worth a read. An overly long, dense, hard-to-read newsletter simply wastes people’s time. In addition, by keeping the content external, you can use click through analytics to see who is really interested in what content - and tailor your follow-up appropriately.

Keep it Entertaining.
We’re shocked by the number of dry, boring newsletters that clog our inboxes. We subscribe to many newsletters to keep up on our competitors, but we usually only read those that keep us entertained. Try adding a bit of humor if possible.

Don’t Hard-Sell.
The flip side of the coin is when we see companies who feel as though they need to close business in every sentence. Email marketing is about relationship building, and it is something you’re doing for the long- term - not a quick revenue hit. Even for consumer- oriented retailers, this fact still holds true- customer relationships are profitable when they are long-term, so your marketing efforts need to be oriented that way.

The Value Of Testing - Wealthy Affiliate Explains It All

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

One of the most important aspects of affiliate marketing is testing. This allows you to know what works best for your particular website and gives you the warning signs that you are possibly going down the wrong route. Testing gives you the ability to build the optimal website on which every space is filled in the most profitable way.

It is vital that you have access to Real Time stats if you want to be able to test out your ideas. Most affiliate networks offer this feature for free, and there are plenty software packages on the market which will track this for you. In this way, you will be able to see straight away if the change you have made has had any benefit to your online business. Sometimes the crucial make break changes, do not immediately track a huge turn around of your business, but often there will be some hint which gives you the hope that you are moving in the right direction.

What exactly is testing? It can be as small as moving a banner from the top right hand corner to the top left. It can be as huge as rethinking your whole model of how you will get traffic to your site. It could simply mean you need to replace the campaigns you are currently running. Whether your goal is to get visitors to your site, give your visitors a wonderful time or it is to make money from every visitor that enters your site, testing will give you the tools to spot what is working and what needs to be rethought.

Let us look at an example. Trevor is running a website on Disney World. He joins an affiliate network and picks 3 offers which he will run on his Disney World website. They include an email submit campaign, a zip code campaign and a shopping site where his visitors can purchase Disney goods. He also puts a bit of adsense on the top and left hand side of his website. The rest of the site is filled with content and pictures. At these early stages of the website, Trevor already needs to start testing.

The first and most important goal for Trevor is to get traffic to his site. Without traffic, this website is as good as your personal hand written diary. Traffic encourages an excitement about your website and will ultimately make you money. There are hundreds if not thousands of different ways to get traffic to your site. Each feature you add or remove from your site, could change your daily ratio from 10 to 1 visitor or just as easily, from 10 to 10000 visitors. The beauty about testing is it never ends.

Once Trevor has sufficient traffic visiting and revisiting his site, he needs to work a way that encourages the visitors to stay and browse. Through informative articles or interesting campaigns, Trevor is now able to test what works for his visitors and what does not work. As Trevor gains knowledge in the power of testing, he will look for the hidden, less obvious changes to test. A good example of this, is the difference it can make whether the name of the website is displayed at the top middle, top left or top right of the page. The importance of this decision can have a significant impact on the amount of type–in-traffic Trevor will receive to his site.

One of the most important parts of affiliate marketing is testing. This allows the affiliates to know the impact of each new idea and determine whether every change made will benefit or improve their site. Testing hints or spells out exactly what works and what needs to be rethought. Thus, if you are interested in affiliate marketing, make it a goal to be interested in testing.

Testing is not restricted to websites. It is just as effective if you want to improve your mailers or blogs as well. Don’t hold back on testing, it is one of the most powerful tools for success, and vital if you want to succeed. From the moment you decide to build a website, start a mailing list or write a blog, testing each step can only be of benefit to you and help you succeed.
