Keeping New Content Will Help Further Your Website
What steps are required to ensure that your site improves its current search engine position and maybe even gets to the top of the listings? There are plenty of tricks and tips you can implement for yourself. Here’s what we at North West Trader think are important.
The most important is putting in plenty of unique, fresh content. This can be achieved in a variety of ways and depends on your site and its content.
If you are a shopping web site, then you will no doubt have a catalogue of items to sell. By showing these products and having a page per product, you create a large web site. By then continuing to update these products, your website is seen as fresh. This can be as simple as including new products on a weekly basis, or just going into the products and changing their descriptions a little on a weekly basis.
Maybe review your product texts and make sure that each one is at least 100 words, or 200 words if you are more wordy. More importantly, make sure that you have not taken the text from any other web sites as this is a huge killer - search engines will find it is ‘duplicate content’ and may not even include your pages.
Another trick is to feature a product or few items on the home page – an item of the week sort of feature. Set a day aside and once a week change the item or items and in doing so you are keeping the home page updated.
If you don’t have the option of an item catalogue, then there are still ways of maintaining the web site updated. An web site blog to which you post a couple of times per week produces a growing website and new, fresh content. On a similar vein, you can have a current news section - either a page or a set of pages. Either of these can be worked so that some of the text is displayed on the website home page to keep it fresh.
And another trick is a forum. If you have regular visitors to the web site they might like to share in a forum. Every time they add a post they are adding to your website’s content.
So why is this beneficial? Well, the more content you have on you web site the more pages and more possible combinations of keywords are on your website. By including lots of extra text there are more chances of someone visiting your website.
Also, by keeping your content updated, search engines see that the website is being maintained and should rate your site higher. They assume that the site is not getting stale and full of old, outdated, information. Also, by using forums, blogs, offers and the likes, real customers are more interested in returning to the website to see what you have to offer.
So keep adding content - it creates a lot more opportunities for people to find text on your web site and it keeps the search engines interested. And if you are looking for quick links, get in touch with local directories, such as ours at North West Businesses.
